Origin & Production

Zacapa Edition Negra is made from premium sugarcane juice (“Virgin Sugar Cane Honey”) – not from molasses, like many other rums. It is aged using the complex solera process in Guatemala, at an altitude of over 2,300 meters . The cool climate there slows the aging process and ensures an exceptionally complex aroma.

It is aged in double-burned oak barrels that previously housed American whiskey and sherry. These barrels impart its characteristic smokiness and intense spice.

Special detail

The hand-woven petate band around each bottle is a traditional Mayan symbol for the unity of time and space—a piece of cultural history that is still crafted today by women from three Guatemalan villages.
