There was already a whiskey distillery on the site of the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Kentucky in 1812. This was opened by a certain Elijah Pepper. After several changes of ownership, the distillery was closed and sold by Brown-Forman in 1970. A few years later, however, it was bought back, modernized and put into operation. Woodford Reserve untypically uses Scottish potsills for distillation, which are modeled on the stills at the Auchentoshan Distillery in Glasgow.
Woodford Reserve Rye matured for an undefined period of time in fresh American white oak barrels (Virgin Oak). Bottled at 45.2% vol. Alcohol, without coloring.
Aroma: Spicy with a deep grain note, creamy sweetness, cedar wood and some marzipan.
Taste: Fruity with apples, spicy with pepper, mild sweetness, grainy, oak.
