The original Wolfburn Distillery was founded in 1821 by William Smith & Co. in the northern Highlands. Production ceased around 1850, and the distillery fell into disrepair. By 1872, only ruins remained. Plans for a new distillery near the site of the old one were not drawn up until 2011. Whisky production began there in January 2013.
