Tomintoul is a relatively young distillery, founded in 1964 in Speyside, Scotland. There they produce both single malt whiskey without smoke, which is bottled under their own name, as well as smoky whiskey. However, this one is known as Old Ballantruan. The distillery is owned by Angus Dundee Distillers, which also operates the Glencadam distillery in the Highlands.
Tomintoul 12 years first matured in former bourbon casks and then received a post-maturation in sherry casks. Bottled at a mild 40 vol. % alcohol.
Aroma: Sweet notes of caramel, hints of dried fruit, baking spices and some oak.
Palate: Sponge cake, hints of milk chocolate, roasted nuts and coffee.
