Brothers John and Edward Hopkins founded the Speyburn Distillery in Speyside, Scotland, in 1897. The two men had set themselves the goal of opening the distillery in the same year that Queen Victoria celebrated her 60th reign, in order to fill the first cask in the year of the anniversary. They actually made it - but without there being any windows or doors in the distillery.
Speyburn Hopkins Reserve matured in oak casks for an indefinite period. Bottled at 46% ABV. Alcohol, not chill-filtered.
Nose: Citrus and zest, malty sweetness with hints of spice and a hint of peat smoke.
Taste: Sweet with malt sugar and caramel, tangy and fresh fruitiness, slightly spicy smoke.
