Brothers John and Edward Hopkins founded the Speyburn Distillery in Speyside, Scotland, in 1897. The two men had decided to put the distillery into operation in the same year that Queen Victoria celebrated her 60th reign in order to fill the first barrel in the anniversary year. They actually made it - but without there being any windows or doors in the distillery.
Speyburn 18 years matured the entire time in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled at 46% ABV. Alcohol, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Nose: Hints of ripe fruit, toasted grain, brown sugar and spicy oak.
Taste: Sweet with vanilla, ripe citrus fruits, mild spiciness with malt and nutty-chocolate oak.
