The Pulteney Distillery, which bottles its single malts as "Old Pulteney", was founded in 1826 in the port town of Wick in the northern Highlands. When the distillery opened, the town of Wick was experiencing a massive boom in herring fishing. The large number of people employed in the fishing industry forced the town council to declare a ban on alcohol in Wick. Pulteney is one of the few Scottish distilleries located in the town centre rather than outside it.
Old Pulteney 16 years matured in American oak and Spanish oak barrels. Bottled at a mild 46% alcohol by volume.
Aroma: Warm tones of bourbon vanilla and honey rise up here. The whole thing is underlined by dark chocolate, oak and something floral.
Taste: A full-bodied bouquet of spicy aromas such as white pepper and ginger is combined with traces of the sea, some citrus freshness and oak.
