Lagavulin is a whiskey distillery in the town of the same name on the Scottish Isle of Islay. Whiskey was produced at the site of today's distillery as early as 1742. However, the first legal distillery was not founded until 1816 by John Johnston. Located in the south of the island, in close proximity to Ardbeg and Laphroaig, Lagavulin, like its neighbors, produces smoky single malt whiskey. The name of the distillery translates as “the hollow of the mill”.
Lagavulin 12 years matured the entire time in a combination of former bourbon barrels and Don Julio Añejo tequila barrels . Bottled with a powerful 56.4 vol. % alcohol.
