Originally founded in 1972, Glengyle shares the same fate as almost all distilleries in Campbeltown. Hedley Wright, descendant of the founder William Mitchell and owner of Springbank Distillery, bought the old Glengyle buildings in November 2000 and began renovations. For the equipment to produce the single malt, he mainly used used equipment. The Glengyle Distillery reopened in 2004, and the first new make was distilled on March 25.
Kilkerran's Heavily Peated range is bottled in small batches - each batch with a slightly different cask mix and character. Like all bottlings from the Springbank family business, Kilkerran is 100% in-house malted, distilled and bottled, without colouring and not chill-filtered.
This Batch No. 14 matured in a carefully selected blend of former bourbon and sherry casks and was bottled at full small-batch cask strength. Bottled at a powerful 58.3% ABV, without colouring, not chill-filtered.
Nose: Powerful, dense peat smoke with charred oak, salted caramel, sweet vanilla and a hint of sea air.
Taste: Oily, powerful start - dense peat smoke, salted caramel, spicy oak, dark fruit and a long, smoky-maritime finish. Typical Campbeltown character with full small-batch intensity.
