The Glenrothes distillery was built in 1878 on the former site of a sawmill and was the second distillery in the Scottish town of Rothes after Glen Grant. In May 1922, a fire destroyed over 2,500 filled whisky barrels. The burning contents poured into the river in front of the distillery, which runs through the middle of the town. Glenrothes is known for its single malts, which mature almost exclusively in Spanish sherry barrels.
Glenrothes Oldest Reserve matured for at least 30 years in a combination of former bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled at 43% alcohol by volume, without coloring.
Aroma: Full and strong with cooked oranges
Taste: Creamy, vanilla. Blood oranges, spicy oak
