The Glenrothes distillery was built in 1878 on the former site of a sawmill and was the second distillery in the Scottish town of Rothes after Glen Grant. In May 1922 a fire destroyed over 2,500 filled whiskey casks. The burning contents spilled into the river in front of the distillery, which runs right through the town. Glenrothes is known for its single malts, which mature almost exclusively in Spanish sherry casks.
Glenrothes 10 Years matured the entire time in former sherry casks. Bottled at a mild 40% ABV. Alcohol, without dye.
Aroma: Sweet and malty with citrus and zest, delicately spicy oak.
Flavor: Sugary sweetness, lemons and oranges, shortbread with a hint of nuttiness and vanilla.
