Evidence of (illegal) whisky distilling in the region around the town of Tain dates back to around 1700, but legal whisky production only began in 1843 with the Glenmorangie Distillery. The distillery was the first to start aging its whisky in other casks on a large scale. Over the years, the distillery has been expanded several times, but the small but tall stills, unique in their shape throughout Scotland, have been deliberately retained.
The predecessor of this Glenmorangie bottling is one of the best-selling single malts in Scotland. The original successor, with two years of additional maturation, will be no less popular and is now available at 12 years old instead of the original 10 years. The cask composition has also changed slightly and now consists of first-fill bourbon casks and special designer casks made from air-dried American oak sourced from the Ozark Mountains in the USA.
Beautiful gift set with 2 glasses!
Aroma: Citrus fruits with accents of oranges and ripe peaches. Notes of mild vanilla round off the aroma.
Taste: A mild start with sweet hints of vanilla and honey, which slowly unfold on the palate. Complex with floral fruitiness of oranges, renewed notes of peach embedded in the initial sweetness.
