Evidence of (illegal) whisky distilling in the region around the town of Tain dates back to around 1700, but legal whisky has only been produced at the Glenmorangie Distillery since 1843. The distillery was the first to begin maturing its whisky in other casks on a large scale. Over the years, the distillery has been expanded several times, but the distillery has deliberately stuck with the small but tall stills, which are unique in all of Scotland.
The predecessor to this Glenmorangie bottling is one of the best-selling single malts in Scotland. The original successor will be no less popular despite being aged two years longer and is now available with a 12-year maturation period instead of the original 10. The cask composition has also changed slightly and now consists of first-fill bourbon casks and special designer casks of air-dried American oak from the Ozark Mountains in the USA.
Aroma: Citrus fruits with accents of orange and ripe peaches. Notes of mild vanilla round out the aroma.
Palate: Mild onset with sweet hints of vanilla and honey that slowly unfold on the palate. Complex with floral fruitiness of oranges, renewed notes of peach embedded in the initial sweetness.
