Bunnahabhain was founded in 1881 by the Greenless brothers on the Scottish island of Islay and translates as "river mouth". The distillery has some of the largest stills on the island and uses them to produce both smokeless and smoked whisky. With an approximate smoke content of 38 ppm, the peated bottlings are considered to be rather mildly smoky. These are often found in the bottle typical of Bunnahabhain, which is very dark in color under Gaelic names.
Aroma: Sweet caramel with strong sherry, followed by oak and leather.
Taste: Creamy and sweet, with hints of berries and roasted malt. Light herbal notes in the background.
