Bunnahabhain was founded in 1881 by the Greenless brothers on the Scottish island of Islay and translates as “river mouth”. The distillery has one of the largest stills on the island and produces whiskey without smoke as well as with it. With an approximate smoke content of 38 ppm, the peated bottlings are considered to be rather mildly smoky. These are very often found in the typical Bunnahabhain bottle, which is very dark in color and has Gaelic names.
Bunnahabhain 18 years matured the entire time in former sherry casks. Bottled at 46.3 vol. % alcohol, without coloring and not cold filtered.
Aroma: Chocolatey oak notes, nougat and honey with hints of dried fruits, oranges and nuts.
Taste: Dried apricots and figs, aromatic spiciness with sweet fudge, roasted hazelnuts and spicy oak.
