Since its founding in 1898, the Benromach distillery has endured truly dark times. In the 1980s, Benromach seemed on the verge of collapse before the independent bottler Gordon & Macphail of Elgin took over the distillery. In 1998, the Forres distillery was reopened by Prince Charles. Benromach is one of the few distilleries in Scotland's Speyside region to continue producing smoky barley malt.
Benromach Contrasts Peat Smoke was produced with 55 ppm smoke content in the malt and matured in ex-bourbon casks from 2012 to 2022. Bottled at 46% ABV, without coloring, and non-chill filtered.
Aroma: Peat smoke, sweet vanilla, honey, apricots, lemons, tobacco
Taste: Pepper, sweet strawberries, oranges, anise, campfire, smoke, coal, chocolate
