Tomintoul is a relatively young distillery, founded in 1964 in Speyside, Scotland. There they produce both single malt whiskey without smoke, which is bottled under their own name, as well as smoky whiskey. However, this one is known as Old Ballantruan. The distillery is owned by Angus Dundee Distillers, which also operates the Glencadam distillery in the Highlands.
Tomintoul 16 years matured the entire time in ex-bourbon casks. Bottled at a mild 40 vol. % alcohol.
Aroma: Tart-dry grain note with subtle oak, ripe fruit notes and a mix of sweet and spicy.
Taste: Cereal accentuated with ripe pears and quince, some vanilla and dry oak, walnuts.
