The Stauning Distillery was founded in 2005 in the town of the same name in Denmark. Production began in 2009 with an initial 60,000 pure alcohol per year. After Diageo acquired a stake in the distillery, the facility was expanded and output increased to 750,000 pure alcohol annually. Stauning malts the rye for production and sometimes uses peat and heather for drying.
Stauning Bastard was aged for 3 years in new burnt American oak barrels and received a 6-month finish in mezcal barrels from Mexican producer Oro de Oaxaca.
Bottled at 46.3% vol. Alcohol, without coloring and not cold filtered.
Aroma: Sweet pipe tobacco smoke, raisins, oatmeal cookies, citrus, oak.
Taste: Tobacco, vanilla, barley, dried fruit, cinnamon, brown sugar, molasses, shortbread, oak.
