Martin Wilkes Heron, an Irish bartender in New Orleans in 1874, mixed a cocktail he dubbed "Cuffs and Buttons." Eleven years later, he renamed the cocktail "Southern Comfort, " reminiscent of the "Deep South" of the United States. He patented the recipe and began bottling the liqueur in Tennessee in 1889.
Southern Comfort combines bourbon whiskey with vanilla, cinnamon and fruits. Bottled at 35 vol. % alcohol.
Aroma: Sweet and fruity with a light grain note and a hint of spice.
Taste: Sweet vanilla, toffee and cinnamon, oranges and peaches, mildly spicy.
