The Laphroaig Distillery was officially founded in 1815 in the south of the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay. At the time of Prohibition, the distillery's whiskey was sold as medicine, which explains the appearance and features of the whiskeys. In 1994 the distillery received the 'Royal Warrant' from King Charles III. presented. He appreciates the smoky single malt whiskey from Laphroaig and visits the distillery regularly. Laphroaig means something like "the beautiful hollow on the wide bay".
Laphroaig PX Cask matured for an undefined period of time first in former bourbon casks, then in quarter casks and finally in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. Bottled at 48 vol. % alcohol, not chill filtered.
Aroma: Herbal and sweet, slightly chocolaty oak with hints of fruit and restrained peat smoke.
Taste: Sweet with some raisins, chocolate and herbal honey, oak and peat smoke, dry nutty.
