Lagavulin is a whiskey distillery in the town of the same name on the Scottish Isle of Islay. As early as 1742, whiskey was being produced at the site of today's distillery. However, the first legal distillery was not founded until 1816 by John Johnston. Located in the south of the island, in close proximity to Ardbeg and Laphroaig, Lagavulin, like its neighbors, produces smoky single malt whisky. The name of the distillery means something like "the trough of the mill".
Lagavulin 8 years matured the entire time in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled with a strong 48 vol. % alcohol.
Aroma: Medium peat smoke, aromatic mix of sweetness and spice, maritime notes with grain and delicate oak.
Taste: Smoky malt, iodine and seaweed, roasted peanuts, maritime freshness, hints of vanilla and citrus.
