With Kilchoman's "Sister Cask" whiskies, the German importer, Hanseatic Wine Trading Company, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.

When the Kilchoman distillery opened in 2005, it was the first new distillery on the Scottish island of Islay in 124 years. Kilchoman places a relatively high emphasis on regionality and craftsmanship. A portion of the barley used in production is grown near the distillery and kilned on its own malt floors. The distillery's single malts delight fans of smoky whisky all over the world, leading to Kilchoman's gradual expansion.

The Scotch matured from 2014 to 2024 in First Fill Bourbon Barrel and, according to the label, is 9 years old. The distillery bottled it with a peat content of 20 ppm and an alcohol content of 55.3% ABV. It has a striking natural color, is non-chill-filtered, and only 200 bottles are available for purchase.

Aroma: The whisky flatters the nose with toffee and malty notes. It also brings salty hints that lend a maritime character.

Taste: The 9-year-old Kilchoman Sister Cask Whisky has a sweet and creamy palate. It tastes salty, with hints of caramel and vanilla. Oak and a subtle smoky note lead into the finish.
