The Glenrothes distillery was built in 1878 on the former site of a sawmill and was the second distillery in the Scottish town of Rothes after Glen Grant. In May 1922 a fire destroyed over 2,500 filled whiskey casks. The burning contents spilled into the river in front of the distillery, which runs right through the town. Glenrothes is known for its single malts, which mature almost exclusively in Spanish sherry casks.
Glenrothes Maker's Cut matured in ex-sherry casks for an undefined period. Bottled at a strong 48.8% ABV. Alcohol, without dye.
Nose: Notes of tree sap and orange peel, sugary sweetness, fresh oak.
Taste: Citrus fruity with oranges and zest, rock candy, nutmeg and ginger, spicy oak.
