After the founding of the Benromach distillery in 1898, the distillery really had dark times behind it. In the 1980s Benromach seemed on the brink of extinction before Elgin independent bottlers Gordon & Macphail took over the distillery. In 1998, Prince Charles reopened the Forres distillery. Benromach is one of the few distilleries in the Scottish Speyside that produces continuously with smoky barley malt.
Benromach 21 years matured in a combination of former bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled at 43 vol. % alcohol, without coloring.
Aroma: Pleasant note of sherry with creamy nuttiness, ginger, cookie dough and hints of smoke.
Taste: Ripe oranges and peel, intense spiciness, pepper, roasted notes, a hint of smoke and pleasant oak, chocolate.
