The Benriach distillery was founded in 1898 between the towns of Elgin and Rothes. The distillery is characterized by its willingness to experiment - both with the malt and the barrels. Benriach produces - rather untypical for the Speyside - in places strongly smoky single malt whiskey and matures it in addition to the peat-smoke-free in a variety of different pre-assigned casks.
Benriach 16 matured the entire time in a combination of former bourbon, sherry and fresh oak casks (Virgin Oak). Bottled at 43 vol. % alcohol, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: Malty with hints of candle wax, creamy sweetness, ripe fruit and spicy oak.
Taste: Sweet with caramel, spicy with a little pepper, fruity with apples and pears, dry wood.
