There was a whiskey distillery on the site of the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Kentucky as early as 1812. This was opened by a certain Elijah Pepper. After several changes of ownership, the distillery was closed and sold by Brown-Forman in 1970. A few years later, however, it was bought back, modernized and put into operation. Woodford Reserve untypically uses Scottish potsills for distillation, which are modeled on the stills of the Auchentoshan Distillery in Glasgow.
