After the Benromach distillery was founded in 1898, the distillery has truly had dark times. In the 1980s, Benromach seemed to be on the verge of collapse before the independent bottler Gordon & Macphail from Elgin took over the distillery. In 1998, the distillery in Forres was reopened by Prince Charles. Benromach is one of the few distilleries in the Scottish Speyside to continuously produce smoky barley malt.
Benromach Contrasts: Peat Smoke was produced with 55 ppm smoke content in the malt and matured in ex-bourbon barrels from 2012 to 2022. Bottled at 46% alcohol by volume, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: peat smoke, sweet vanilla, honey, apricots, lemons, tobacco
Taste: pepper, sweet strawberries, oranges, anise, campfire, smoke, coal, chocolate
