Lagavulin is a whiskey distillery in the town of the same name on the Scottish Isle of Islay. As early as 1742, whiskey was being produced at the site of today's distillery. However, the first legal distillery was not founded until 1816 by John Johnston. Located in the south of the island, in close proximity to Ardbeg and Laphroaig, Lagavulin, like its neighbors, produces smoky single malt whisky. The name of the distillery means something like "the trough of the mill".
Lagavulin 16 years matured the entire time in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled at 43 vol. % alcohol.
Aroma: Mixture of spicy and sweet with deep smokiness, iodine and seaweed, dry oak.
Taste: Peppery spiciness with sweet herbs, maritime, smoked ham, wood.
