Lagavulin is a whisky distillery in the town of the same name on the Scottish Isle of Islay. Whisky was produced at the site of the current distillery as early as 1742. However, the first legal distillery was not founded until 1816 by John Johnston. Located in the south of the island, in close proximity to Ardbeg and Laphroaig, Lagavulin, like its neighbors, produces smoky single malt whisky. The name of the distillery translates as "the hollow of the mill."
Lagavulin 12 years matured the entire time in a combination of former bourbon barrels and fresh oak barrels (virgin oak).
Bottled with a strong 57.4% alcohol by volume.
Aroma: Wild berry jam and a lovely smokiness harmonize with exotic spices.
Taste: Soft and creamy with caramel, smoke and coconut. Maritime notes and medicinal nuances.
