Lagavulin is a whisky distillery located in the village of the same name on the Scottish Isle of Islay. Whisky was produced at the current site as early as 1742. However, the first legal distillery was not founded until 1816 by John Johnston. Located in the south of the island, in close proximity to Ardbeg and Laphroaig, Lagavulin, like its neighbors, produces smoky single malt whisky. The distillery's name translates as "the hollow of the mill."
Lagavulin 12 Year Old matured the entire time in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and virgin oak barrels. Bottled at a robust 57.3% alcohol by volume.
Aroma: Fresh and maritime with sweet and spicy peat smoke, burnt charcoal, a little wood and ginger.
Taste: Citrus fruits and Mediterranean herbs, sweetness and spices in the mix, burnt oak wood.
