Lagavulin is a whiskey distillery in the town of the same name on the Scottish Isle of Islay. As early as 1742, whiskey was being produced at the site of today's distillery. However, the first legal distillery was not founded until 1816 by John Johnston. Located in the south of the island, in close proximity to Ardbeg and Laphroaig, Lagavulin, like its neighbors, produces smoky single malt whisky. The name of the distillery means something like "the trough of the mill".
Lagavulin 12 years matured the entire time in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and fresh oak casks (Virgin Oak). Bottled with a strong 57.3 vol. % alcohol.
Aroma: Fresh and maritime with sweet and spicy peat smoke, burnt charcoal, some wood and ginger.
Taste: Citrus fruits and Mediterranean herbs, sweetness and spices in the mix, burnt oak.
