Founded only in 1967, the Glenallachie Distillery is one of Scotland's younger distilleries. Located just outside the town of Aberlour, the distillery was originally built for mass production for the blending industry. Since being acquired by a group of investors in 2017, the focus has shifted to its own single malts. These are matured and finished in a variety of different cask types. Glenallachie translates as "valley of stones."
Glenallachie 10 Year Old Ruby Port Wood was first matured in American Oak Bourbon Barrels and then further matured in Ruby Port Hogshead Casks. Bottled at 48% ABV, without coloring and non-chill filtered.
Nose: Intense aromas of mocha, rosehips and syrupy sweets, followed by butterscotch, almonds and cooked pear.
Taste: Hints of raisins, chocolate, honey and syrup, as well as candy canes, glacé cherries and cinnamon.
