Bunnahabhain was founded in 1881 by the Greenless brothers on the Scottish island of Islay and means something like "river mouth". The distillery has one of the largest stills on the island and produces both smokeless and smoked whiskey. With an approximate smoke content of 38 ppm, the peated bottlings are considered to be rather mildly smoky. These can be found very often in the bottle typical of Bunnahabhain, which is very darkly colored under Gaelic names.
Bunnahabhain 30 years matured the entire time in former sherry casks. Bottled at 46.3 vol. % alcohol, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: Clear sherry note, polished wood, hints of beeswax and toffee, herbs and some smoke.
Palate: Light and dark dried fruit, tobacco and cedar, toasted hazelnuts with hints of dark chocolate and leather.
