Founded in 1955, Karuizawa Distillery was located in the Japanese city of Miyota, at the foot of Mount Asama, an active volcanic area at an altitude of around 850 meters. In 2000 the distillery was mothballed and closed a year later. Bottlings from the distillery are very popular at auctions and often fetch six-figure amounts.
