In fact, the tonka bean taste is most reminiscent of a mixture of vanilla and almond.
Due to the vanilla taste, it was often recommended as a vanilla substitute.
Some connoisseurs also describe the taste of tonka bean with a hint of Woodruff and notes of rum.
Incidentally, the rum taste of tonka beans comes from the fact that the beans are soaked in rum after harvesting and then left to dry for a long time.
