Hakushu Distillery was established in 1973 in Toribara Village of the former Hakushu City in the forest on the slopes of Mount Kaikoma. Besides Yamazaki, Hakushu is Suntory's second distillery, which focuses on the production of single malt whisky. However, Hakushu uses lightly peated malt, which Yamazaki does not.
Hakushu Distillers Reserve matured for an undefined period in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, complemented by fresh Japanese oak casks (Mizunara). Bottled at 43 vol. % alcohol, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: Fresh fruit notes, floral notes, light malt sweetness and a hint of smoke.
Palate: Fresh with lemongrass, light citrus, some grain and light peat smoke.
