The company Suntory was founded in 1899 by Shinjiro Torii as a beverage manufacturer and is Japan's largest whiskey producer. Distilleries such as Yamazaki and Hakushu are owned by the company and are enjoying growing popularity around the world with their single malts. In 2014 the Jim Beam company was acquired with all owned distilleries in the US, Ireland and Scotland including all other brands. Suntory is one of the five largest spirits companies in the world.
