The Chichibu Distillery was founded in 2004 in the town of the same name by Ichiro Akuto. Ichiro comes from a family with a long history of sake brewing. In 1945, Ichiro's grandfather decided to make whiskey. These mark the beginnings of the Hanyu Distillery. It closed due to bankruptcy in 2000. Ichiro salvaged the cask inventory and started his Chichibu Distillery in 2008.
Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve first matured in oak barrels for an undefined period of time and then received a post-maturation in fresh Japanese oak barrels (Mizunara). Bottled at 46% ABV. Alcohol, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: Roasted barley malt, delicate herbs with a mild sweetness, spices and fresh oak.
Taste: Fruity and sweet with candied apples, herbs and some pepper, citrus, dry wood.
