However, this original explanation for the iconic design of the world-famous green gin bottle is false. Rather, the bottle is shaped like a cocktail shaker—more specifically, a cobbler shaker. Tanqueray London Gin is a time-honored gin classic that owes its international success to its high quality and its excellent suitability as a base for cocktails and long drinks .

Launched in 1830 in the London district of Bloomsbury, the gin from the Tanquery Distillery quickly became very well-known. It was one of the first gins produced using the process now known as London Dry Gin, but with quadruple distillation, it was distilled even more than the minimum required.
