Bunnahabhain was founded in 1881 by the Greenless brothers on the Scottish island of Islay and translates as "river mouth". The distillery has some of the largest stills on the island and uses them to produce both smokeless and smoked whisky. With an approximate smoke content of 38 ppm, the peated bottlings are considered to be rather mildly smoky. These are often found in the bottle typical of Bunnahabhain, which is very dark in color under Gaelic names.
Bunnahabhain 12 years Cask Strength matured the entire time in a combination of former bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled at cask strength 60.1% alcohol by volume, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: Floral and nutty with notes of marzipan, hazelnut, almond cream and sour cherries.
Taste: Roasted nuts and spices with cinnamon and cloves, with notes of caramel, toffee sultanas and a hint of coffee.
