Charles Tanqueray kept careful records of his ideas and discoveries throughout his life.

With his relentless quest for perfection, he looked everywhere for new inspiration - from exotic Far Eastern spices unloading at the London docks to his travels to remote corners of Europe.

However, Charles Tanqueray also received some suggestions right on his doorstep.

In his notes from 1839, they discovered "Lovage" - a spirit with a balanced, aromatic taste, made from the finest ingredients of English origin.
