Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, who had apprenticed in Scotch whisky distillation in Scotland several years earlier and subsequently helped build the Suntory company. Nikka operates several facilities and distilleries in Japan, including the Yoichi and Miyagikyo whisky distilleries. The Scottish Ben Nevis Distillery is also part of the Japanese company.

This gin is produced using the innovative Coffey still continuous column distillation process, which yields a smoother and more flavorful distillate. Botanicals such as kabosu (a citrus fruit primarily found in Japan) and amanatsu (a yellowish-orange citrus fruit from southern Japan) , along with spices, are gently macerated and distilled together with traditional juniper. The result is a unique gin with a complex and balanced aroma, perfect for enjoying neat or as the base for sophisticated cocktails.
