Since its founding in 1898, the Benromach distillery has truly weathered some dark times. In the 1980s, Benromach seemed destined for closure before the independent bottler Gordon & Macphail from Elgin took it on. In 1998, the Forres distillery was reopened by Prince Charles. Benromach is one of the few distilleries in Scotland's Speyside region that continues to produce whisky using peated malted barley.
Benromach Contrasts Peat Smoke was produced with 57 ppm peat in the malt and matured from 2014 to 2023 in ex-bourbon barrels. Bottled at 46% ABV, without added color and non-chill filtered.
Aroma: Peat smoke, sweet vanilla, honey, apricots, lemons, tobacco
Flavor: Pepper, sweet strawberries, oranges, anise, campfire, smoke, coal, chocolate
