The original Wolfburn Distillery was founded in 1821 by William Smith & Co in the Northern Highlands. Production stopped around 1850 and the distillery fell into disrepair. By 1872 only ruins remained. It wasn't until 2011 that plans emerged for a new distillery not far from the site of the old facility. Whiskey production began in January 2013.
Wolfburn No.177 was matured indefinitely in a combination of ex-bourbon and Caribbean rum casks. Bottled at 46 vol. % alcohol, without coloring and not cold filtered.
Aroma: Roasted figs, plums, candied ginger, toffee, marzipan and sultanas.
Taste: With overtones of molasses always present. Then sweetness, with fruit and honey notes, with silky oak tannins.
