The original Wolfburn Distillery was founded in 1821 by William Smith & Co in the North Highlands. Production stopped around 1850 and the distillery fell into disrepair. In 1872 only ruins remained. Plans for a new distillery not far from the site of the old facility only emerged in 2011. Whiskey production started in January 2013.
Wolfburn 100 Years of the Poppy matured in a combination of ex-Islay quarter casks and sherry casks for an undefined period. Bottled at 46 vol. % alcohol, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: Floral and grainy, hints of ripe fruit and creamy sweetness, mildly spicy.
Taste: Fruity with pears, Christmas spices, vanilla and heather, nutty.
