The Schäfer family distillery was founded in 1869 by Michael Eckert, the great-great-grandfather of the current owner Jörg Schäfer, in Seckmauern in the Odenwald. The company is currently being run by the 5th generation of the family and can look back on 150 years of existence in 2019. The distillery mainly processes the fruit from its own and local orchard stocks. The finest drops are distilled from various apple and pear varieties, sour cherries, plums and mirabelle plums.
