Bunnahabhain was founded in 1881 by the Greenless brothers on the Scottish island of Islay and means something like "river mouth". The distillery has one of the largest stills on the island and produces both smokeless and smoked whiskey. With an approximate smoke content of 38 ppm, the peated bottlings are considered to be rather mildly smoky. These can be found very often in the bottle typical of Bunnahabhain, which is very darkly colored under Gaelic names.
Bunnahabhain 12 years matured the entire time in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Bottled at 46.3 vol. % alcohol, without coloring and not chill-filtered.
Aroma: Sweetness and spice in the mix, rose hips and roasted malt, hints of dried fruit.
Taste: Fruity with a pleasant sweetness, light spiciness and hints of dark chocolate.
