The cradle of distillate
The Steinmann family has been distilling for generations. It all began with the grandfather over 80 years ago. The knowledge, craftsmanship, flair and passion have been passed down from father to son - right up to the present day. Stefan Steinmann creates high-proof spirits from the finest fruit - distillates with body and soul.
The headquarters of the Stefan Steinmann family at Neuenbergshof is located in the middle of idyllic vineyards, about 1.5 km above Sommerhausen. Here, the sun-kissed fruit from their own vineyards is refined into fine brandies and liqueurs in the farm distillery. In addition to the distillery, the family also grow grapes, fruit and cereals.


Everything has its time - and the longer, the better!
The distillery in Sommerhausen specializes in producing first-class fruit brandies, spirits and liqueurs from home-grown fruit. Sun-kissed fruits with a full flavor grow around the village, including quinces, cherries, plums, apples and currants. The use of pesticides and fertilizers is avoided as far as possible in order to guarantee healthy and uncontaminated products.
Once the fruit has reached optimum ripeness, it is harvested by hand, carefully washed and checked. Fermentation takes place without any chemical additives, which is clearly noticeable in the end product, the pure distillate. In keeping with the motto "Tradition obliges", distillation is carried out gently over a wood fire in an old family-owned copper kettle.
The brandies undergo a complex raw and fine distillation process and are distilled a total of four times. The mash is carefully heated in a copper kettle, which first produces the raw spirit and then, after further distillation processes, the fine spirit. The heart of these processes is the distillate, a Steinmann brandy from Sommerhausen.
Correct storage and a sufficient storage period are crucial for the flavor balance and harmony of the products. During storage in glass balloons or oak barrels, the distillates are checked regularly. After storage, they are reduced to drinking strength with spring water and then left to rest in order to blend harmoniously. Finally, the brandy is bottled, corked, sealed and labeled by hand. The result is a unique, high-quality product under the name "Sommerhäuser Brennkunst".
